About the Bloomberg American Cities Climate Challenge Grant

The $30,000 Bloomberg American Cities Planning Grant will fund a planning process, with technical support, to create a Climate Action Plan in Mercy Drive, Parramore, Holden Heights and Downtown Orlando. Each community will also receive 30 solar lanterns, 83 weatherization kits, and a solar portable power kit that can charge charge electronic devices.

The planning process will run from October 2019 through December 2020, and will be led by a Community Captain in each community. The final plan created will present the community's vision of how to become climate resilient.

There will be technical support for Zoom calls and informal meetings supported by the Central Florida Resilience System.

There will be 4 key events:

    • Community Kickoff Meeting: The community will review the Survey results, learn about the American Cities Climate Challenge, and plan what the community will present at the First Roundtable.

    • Roundtable 1: The 4 communities will meet to determine the areas of the plan where there are common concerns, and to set up work groups to work on them. A list of needed expertise will be created at this meeting. The Climate Consultant from the Bloomberg American Cities Challenge representative will assist in identifying technical experts to answer questions from the work groups as they develop their plans.

    • Work Group Kickoff Meeting: The technical experts meet with the community, and work groups have their first face-to-face workshop.

    • Roundtable 2: The plans from each work group and from each community are reviewed, and information that will go into the plan is decided on.
